The South Coast is chock-full of white sand beaches, idyllic blue waters and dramatic coastal landscapes at just about every turn, but there’s one swimming spot that consistently draws the most attention. Out of over 100 ocean-fed rock pools scattered along the NSW coastline, the aptly named Blue Pool in Bermagui is regularly cited among the most scenic swims in the state. Carved right into the bottom of a rocky cliff, the crystal-clear waters in the pool shift from sapphire and turquoise to a brilliant emerald green depending on the sun. Whether you’re making a pit stop for a quick swim, trying to capture a picture-perfect sunset or looking for marine life below the surface, this Sapphire Coast gem is an essential summer highlight. Here’s how to plan your visit to one of the prettiest rock pools in NSW.
Blue Pool, Bermagui

While this natural swimming spot isn’t a secret anymore, it’s tucked away just beyond the town centre, and typically sees fewer crowds than famous ocean pools in Sydney and Newcastle. The local favourite is constantly replenished by the ocean, and at 50-metres, is long enough for dedicated lap swimmers. The pool is built with a practical two-tiered design: a deeper main section, and a separate shallow section that is calmer and ideal for a family beach day.
Another reason to plan a visit: it’s an underrated snorkelling spot with crystal clear water and abundant small marine life. Grab a mask, head out at low tide and you’re likely to spot everything from fish and crabs to sea stars, marine snails and more. You can also look forward to seeing whales breaching off shore (in season). What sets it apart is its setting. The Pacific looms majestically ahead, with brilliant blue waters, rugged rocks and delightfully scenic cliffside views framing the pool. And if you’re keen for a longer trip down the coast, make sure to check out another equally stunning rock pool in Eden, just a short drive away.

Access to the town is not quick or direct from major cities so driving is the most practical option. The nearest regional airports are Moruya or Merimbula. Plan your travels on Transport for NSW.
