We live in the age of digital media but there’s no stopping serious bookworms from getting their fill of books. If you count yourself in this category, we’ve got a weekend idea that involves bookish wanderings that you’ll adore. If you, like us, thought you knew the Blue Mountains intimately, you’ll be surprised to know it’s home to an actual Bookshop Trail and it’s a wonderful way to get cosy on a chilly day. The trail meanders through 9 picturesque villages and features 11 bookshops dotted along the route, each with its own charm and offering something new to discerning bookworms.
Blue Mountains Bookshop Trail
Sydneysiders and residents around NSW are well aware of the many charms of the Blue Mountains. From one-of-a-kind waterfalls to lush rainforests, charming walks and more, it’s the place where Mother Nature shows off her best assets. The bookshop trail is an excellent idea to explore more of its rugged beauty while also picking out your next read through an easy and convenient route. You may even stumble upon a hidden gem or two.
Eleven independent sellers brought this idea to life with the vision to encourage a love of books in a snug and homey way with the community at the centre.
“The idea for the Bookshop Trail came to me out of a sense that we could all benefit from collaborating rather than competing with each other. It is counterintuitive to most business models but it has made such a difference to our foot traffic,” Mary Coin, owner and founder of Good Earth Bookshop in Wentworth Falls said.
The bookshop trail will satiate even the most voracious of readers with some bookstores offering second-hand books while others bring rare and collectible books to the table. Also on offer is an eclectic range of new titles, poetry, science fiction, fantasy, horror and even folklore.
The bookshops featured on the trail include the following shops:
- Blue Dragon Books, Glenbrook
- The Turning Page Bookshop, Springwood
- Chapters and Leaves, Faulconbridge
- RoseyRavelston Books, Lawson
- Good Earth Bookshop, Wentworth Falls
- Wyrdbooks, Wentworth Falls
- Megalong Books, Leura
- The Little Lost Bookshop, Katoomba
- Mr Pickwick’s Fine Old Books, Katoomba
- A Reader’s Heaven, Lithgow
- Gleebooks at Blackheath
If you’re thinking of making this your next weekend escape, there’s a handy map you can follow to find the most convenient route from Sydney. Happy reading!
