Not sure about you but come Monday we’re heading to the beach, soaking up the sun, grabbing a drink at our favourite pub and walking around town — all the things we’ve missed out on in the last couple of months. But till then, we have one final weekend to catch up on all the brilliant TV that has kept us distracted during this time. Here is a list of 7 of the best shows in recent times for your viewing pleasure.
1. Ted Lasso
The internet cannot get enough of Ted Lasso. The story of a small-time football coach who is hired to coach a professional team in England has unanimously been described as the perfect comfort show. In an age where television and films are getting increasingly dark, Ted Lasso comes as a breath of fresh air.

2. Mare of Easttown
Mare of Easttown is a captivating watch from start to finish. Led by a brilliant Kate Winslet, the show revolves around a detective caught in the middle of a murder investigation in Pennsylvania. If you’re into slow burn thrillers, you’ll want to check this one out.

3. The Queens Gambit
This coming-of-age drama was all the rage when it first came out in 2020, in part because of it’s lead Anya Taylor-Joy’s brilliant performance. With great writing, an intricate plotline and a brilliant cast, the miniseries was Netflix’s top show in over 63 countries.

4. Hacks
Jean Smart who was also brilliant in the earlier mentioned Mare of Easttown won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work in Hacks at the Emmy awards. The show is a gripping commentary on women in film and is as eye-opening as it is hilarious. If there’s one show on this list, I personally cannot recommend enough, it’s Hacks.

5. The Crown
The Crown was the most nominated drama series at the Emmy Awards along with Mandalorian at 24 nominations. With 11 wins now under it’s belt, the show has ushered Netflix into the main leagues. The show explores the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and is without a doubt one of the best shows in recent times.

6. I May Destroy You
Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You, is not an easy watch but an important one. The show that revolves around the life of a sexual assault survivor sees Coel as the showrunner, director, star, and writer and is must-watch television in these times.

7. Halston
This five-part miniseries delves into the life of American fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick more popularly known as Halston complete with all the struggles and glitz of the fashion world. The show also recreates a bygone fashion era to perfection but it is Ewan McGregor in the lead role who steals the show.
