From the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden to Mayfield, gardens around NSW are a treat to visit any time of the year, but they’re especially magical in autumn with cooler temperatures, crisp air and scenic views enveloping the landscape. One of the most reliable places to see this seasonal transition is in Mount Wilson, a Blue Mountains village within easy reach of Sydney, known for its cool climate and long-standing garden culture. While Breenhold Gardens is often the first stop for visitors during autumn, another private garden in the area is well worth keeping on your radar. With its iconic red gate and rows of crimson maples, Bebeah Garden is especially lovely at this time of year. It’s now open for the season, and the colours are beginning to peak — here’s what you need to know before visiting.

Bebeah Garden, Mount Wilson

Head to Mount Wilson to fully immerse yourself in the riot of colour this autumn. As you enter the quaint English-style Bebeah Garden, you’ll be treated to a delightful mix of autumn colours and a clear walking path to take it all in. The garden dates back to the late 1800s and has since been restored and reshaped, with its name believed to come from an Aboriginal word meaning “a place where stone axes are found.”
Set across roughly five hectares, the path winds past dense clusters of maples, pockets of fern-filled bushland and more formal sections, with plenty of picturesque spots along the way. One of the standout features is the central lake framed by layered plantings and mature trees, with some of the strongest colour concentrated here during autumn. Many of the trees here are well over a century old, including oaks, magnolias, elms, conifers, cherries and dogwoods.
Elsewhere, tightly grouped maples create a more immersive section, with leaves shifting through reds, oranges and yellows. Combined with fallen foliage underfoot and the more enclosed layout, it’s one of the more visually dense gardens in Mount Wilson during peak season. Read more about Bebeah Garden here.
