Thinking about going overseas this year? Well, you can feel confident in your travels, because Australia has one of the most powerful passports in the world. The Henley Passport Index, the original and authoritative ranking of the world’s strongest passports, released their rankings for 2025. It assesses the number of destinations that can be accessed without a prior visa. It takes data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and includes 199 different passports to 227 travel destinations.
After a couple of price hikes, we’ve managed to keep our sixth place in the rankings, which means we have visa-free access to 189 destinations. Joining us in 6th place are our friends from Greece.
For the first time in seven years, Japan is in second place and not in the top spot; that title goes to Singapore, which has visa-free access to 195 destinations. New Zealand has moved up a spot to number 5, and is joined by many European countries and South Korea.
