Always on the hunt for a wild and wonderful swimming spot? We’ve only got a few hundred to choose from here in NSW. One of our favourites is the photogenic Woy Woy waterfall and if you’re chronically online, it’s likely you’ve already seen it on your feed. The carefully hidden waterfall is a picturesque swimming spot that cascades into a man-made infinity pool. It’s one of the more adventurous waterfalls in NSW which makes it extra fun to frolic in. Here are some handy steps to help you locate this hidden gem. (Featured image: @nat.keato via Instagram)
Woy Woy waterfall
The photogenic waterfall is located deep within the Brisbane Water National Park at Woy Woy on the New South Wales central coast. You can find it on the Tunnel Fire Trail, and there are different ways to reach it. Although a bit of a trek, you’ll be rewarded with some seriously IG-friendly views.
How to get there
Drive out of Woy Woy on Woy Woy road and park in front of the gate that leads to the Tunnel Fire Trail. Keep in mind that the location only has room for under 10 cars as it’s still largely a ‘secret’. Now you need to jump onto the Fire Trail. The length of the walk is around 5.4km so needless to say you’ll need the right footwear and sufficient water although most of the walk is flat.
You’ll eventually reach a “turn right” sign for Tunnel Track and Rocky Ponds. Once you get there, you’ll want to turn left along the unmarked trail. After about a 15-minute walk, you should see a much smaller, worn-out track. This will lead you to the creek in under a minute.
Now simply follow the creek and it will lead you directly to the top of the waterfall. This steep section is hard to navigate and it is important to be extra careful here since the drop is quite deep. Take a right here and a path will open directing you to the infinity pool. Now enjoy a swim and all the scenic views around.
Pro tip: although the walk is flat, it can get quite slippery during the rainy season. It’s best avoided when it’s raining. It’s also not suitable for little children at all. Happy exploring!
