Airports make a significant part of the travelling experience and if you’re a frequent traveller, you’ll know that not all airports are created equal. AllClear Travel Insurance has thankfully done the legwork to determine exactly which airports around the world are worth your time and money. According to the survey, Sydney Airport is among the top five most luxurious airports worldwide with a score of 61 out of 100.
The study examined more than 1,800 airports around the world and looked at which terminals offered at least 10 lounges. Airports were also scored based on the number of designer shops and whether they could find comforts such as a champagne bar or caviar house while waiting to board. The study noted that Sydney Airport was also “the world’s oldest continually operating commercial international airport, impressing passengers with a runway that extends into Botany Bay.”
World’s most luxurious airports
Based on the study, the following airports were ranked among the top five most luxurious in the world:
- Dubai International Airport
- London Heathrow Airport
- Hamad International Airport
- Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
- Sydney International Airport
Singapore Changi Airport, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, Germany’s Frankfurt Airport and Japan’s Narita International Airport rounded out the top 10.
New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) made it to number 11 and 16 respectively, the only two US airports to make the top 20.
Sydney Airport’s T1 international terminal shopping precinct offers Australia’s largest collection of luxury brands housing names such as Cartier, Gucci, Dior, Hermes, Louis Vuitton and more. If you need refreshments, the airport also offers world-class culinary experiences along with beauty and spa offerings. See the full list of the top 20 most luxurious airports in the world here.
Excitingly, Western Sydney will soon be home to the city’s second airport — Nancy-Bird Walton Airport — and it’s getting a brand new city centre connecting directly to it.
