One of our favourite activities to start each year is to reacquaint ourselves with the endearing characters from British novelist Kenneth Grahame’s beloved book The Wind in the Willows. A critically acclaimed outdoor theatre production has been providing wholesome entertainment to families in Sydney for decades, taking place every January at the Royal Botanic Garden. 2024 is no different as the production is returning to celebrate another year at RBG; this year, performances are taking place between January 5-28.
The Wind in the Willows
The classic children’s novel has remained enduringly popular over the years and delivers big on music, songs, and laughs. With themes of friendship, loyalty and adventure, it’s a story that resonates with the young and old alike, and that translates in spades to the outdoor theatre show.
Join Ratty, Mole, Badger, Otter, Portly, and Mr. Toad in their adventures as they bring Grahame’s enduring story to life. The (often young) audience is encouraged to scream out loud, sing along and become part of the story in this fun theatre experience. As an outdoor seating event, attendees are welcome to bring food and drinks along with picnic blankets to make a day of it. Don’t forget to carry wet weather gear in case the rain decides to make an appearance and play spoilsport.
One key thing to bear in mind; Wind in the Willows is an interactive theatre show and will move around in different locations throughout the premises, centred around the Main Pond. You can find dates and timings at the Royal Botanic Garden website.
