The Royal Coast Track is often hailed as the best coastal walk in all of NSW, but if the idea of tackling the 26km trail feels daunting, you can still experience its beauty by opting for shorter sections, such as the Wattamolla to Eagle Rock track, which offers stunning views, with rugged cliffs and lush native bushland. For a perfect weekend adventure in winter, the walk from Wattamolla to Little Marley Beach is hard to beat. This hidden gem trail truly has it all — a crystal-clear swimming hole that offers infinity pool views nestled in the forest, incredible coastal scenery on all sides, birdwatching opportunities, and vibrant clifftop rocks that look even more beautiful in the soft winter sunshine. And if that’s not enough, the cooler months bring the perfect chance for whale watching. Here’s what to know about the picture-perfect trail before you go.
Wattamolla to Little Marley Beach track

Whether you visit to explore the scenic trails, unwind on the wild beaches, or simply take in the rugged landscapes, the Royal National Park is the perfect escape into nature with something for everyone.
One of the crowning jewels of the park, the Wattamolla to Little Marley Beach walk is also one of the easiest. Despite its length, the path stays mostly on the boardwalk and remains flat for most of the way, offering a relaxed and enjoyable hike suitable for all levels. This section of the Coast Track follows the coastline from the Wattamolla picnic area to the secluded Little Marley Beach. If you’re up for more, continue on for another two kilometres to reach Big Marley Beach.
Highlights worth stopping for along the way include Wattamolla Dam, located less than a kilometre from the start. The glassy surface of the water reflects the surrounding landscape, and the rock wall gives the dam the appearance of an infinity pool nestled within the forest. Look out for the vibrant, colourful rock patterns along the way, especially on the exposed sections, and if you’re visiting between May and October, keep an eye out for whales — this trail is one of the best spots in the park to catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures in the wild during the migratory season.
The trail leads you to two of the park’s most beautiful beaches, Big and Little Marley. Little Marley, in particular, is a quiet stretch of golden sand, almost hidden away from the world with hardly anyone around. If you’re up for more, we highly recommend continuing to Big Marley Beach, which offers even more dramatic scenery, giant waves and striking sand dunes that add to the landscape.
