The snow is melting, flowers are starting to brighten the landscape, and the sun is finally out, which can only mean that spring has arrived. If you’re looking for a place to escape now that the weather’s turned kinder, you don’t have to go far to soak it all in. Just 90 minutes from Sydney, Leura in the Blue Mountains has long been loved for its picture-perfect scenery, charming main street, antique stores, and inviting cafes. But it’s the gardens and colourful blooms that truly steal the show, so much so that it’s dubbed the “garden village” — and there’s no better time to see them than in spring. Here’s how to spend a perfect spring day in Leura.
Things to do in Leura this spring

Offering a healthy dose of colour, the promise of outdoor adventure and fresh breezes, and a serious detox from the winter blues, Leura is the perfect warm-weather escape and one of the best spring getaways in NSW, not too far from the city. Start your trip with a visit to the spectacular Everglades House & Gardens. Set on sprawling grounds, this 1930s art-deco homestead is surrounded by terraced lawns, winding paths and bursts of seasonal colour.
In spring, the gardens are at their very best, with cherry blossoms, tulips and wisteria making the perfect backdrop for a slow wander and soaking up the fresh mountain air. Time your visit with the Leura Gardens Festival, held each spring (October 3-6 in 2025) for even more vibrant displays, a striking variety of cool climate plants, pleasing floral displays and the chance to explore gardens like Allawah, Hill of Grace, Ewanrigg and others at their most impressive.

With days that are not too hot and not too cold, spring is the sweet spot to visit the Blue Mountains, so be sure to indulge in sightseeing around Leura. Start with the Leura Cascades walk, an easy trail that winds down through ferns and eucalypts to a series of pretty falls. For something a little more dramatic, head to nearby Gordon Falls or make the short drive to Wentworth Falls for one of the Blue Mountains’ most iconic lookouts.
Other ways to enjoy the town
If outdoor adventure isn’t your calling, Leura has plenty of other ways to enjoy spring. The main street comes alive with cherry blossoms, making even a casual stroll past the shops and boutiques feel special. You can also explore the Toy and Railway Museum, stop in to see the teapot collection at Bygone Beautys, or simply linger over a quality brunch at one of the town’s many cafes. Locally recommended spots include Lily’s Pad Cafe for sunny brunches in the spring air, Cafe Leura for delicious homemade pastries and Leura Gourmet Cafe and Deli with views extending out to Katoomba. Also worth a visit is The Laneway for coffee and wholesome sandwiches, and The Wayzgoose Diner for outdoor seating and comfort food like hot cakes and waffles.
Planning your trip
Leura is an easy 1.5-hour drive from Sydney, and the trip itself is half the fun — spring means clear skies and plenty of colour along the way. If you’d rather leave the car at home, regular trains run from Central to Leura Station and take just under two hours. Once you’re there, you’re only a short drive from Katoomba and Blackheath, so it’s a handy base for exploring more of the Blue Mountains. Plan your travels on Transport for NSW.
