Sydney shoppers are putting up with seven of Australia’s 10 worst-rated Woolworths supermarkets, while a regional NSW store has earned a spot among the country’s best.
New analysis of Google Maps reviews has revealed the best and worst-rated Woolworths across NSW, with familiar Sydney stores appearing at the bottom of the rankings. Eastwood shoppers may not be quite so impressed by the results.
Eastwood has NSW’s lowest-rated Woolies

Woolworths Eastwood is NSW’s lowest-rated supermarket in the analysis, with an average Google rating of 3.48 stars from 863 reviews. It’s also the second-lowest-rated Woolworths in Australia, behind only Fortitude Valley in Queensland.
Balmain follows on 3.49 stars, while Coogee and Padstow score 3.56 and 3.57 respectively. Cronulla, Moorebank and Kings Cross also feature in the national bottom 10.
One Eastwood reviewer offered a pointed observation about the store’s age, writing: “This might be one of the oldest Woolies stores in Sydney.”
Padstow shoppers have also voiced their frustrations, with one reviewer writing: “Sometimes I feel I am begging for a basic service.”

NSW rates below the national average

The figures come from an analysis of Google Maps listings for Woolworths, Coles and Aldi supermarkets across Australia on 5th October 2026.
The analysis ranked 1,044 open Woolworths stores with at least 200 Google reviews, covering 843,976 reviews in total. Rather than using Google’s rounded scores, researchers calculated each store’s exact average from its individual star-rating counts.
NSW’s 309 stores averaged 4.05 stars, making it the fourth-lowest-rated state or territory. South Australia topped the rankings at 4.11, while the ACT came last at 3.87.
Across Australia, Woolworths averaged 4.07 stars, narrowly ahead of Coles at 4.04. Aldi came out on top overall at 4.25.
What makes a Woolies highly rated?

The findings suggest the difference between a highly rated Woolworths and a poorly rated one often comes down to the experience inside the store.
The analysis found that shoppers reviewing lower-rated stores often mentioned self-checkout restrictions, empty shelves and cramped or run-down interiors.
“Woolworths sells much the same products at much the same prices right across the country, so when a store sits near the bottom on Google, it comes down to how that store is run,” the analysis’s spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that online reviews could influence where shoppers chose to buy their groceries, particularly when several supermarkets were nearby.
“If you’ve got two or three stores within a short drive, it’s worth checking the reviews first, because the experience can be very different from one to the next.”
