The Magician’s Cabaret, hugely popular for its unique setting and dreamy ambience, is home to Australia’s longest Parisian cabaret—La Belle Rose. However, its creators James Karp and James Taylor have reemerged post-lockdown with a breathtaking dinner and show spectacular—The Underground Burlesque Experience—that captures the boisterous spirit of burlesque.
From vintage to modern and more than just twirling tassels, The Underground Burlesque Experience is a three-hour and six-act burlesque extravaganza complete with secret tunnel entry.
The opening act begins with the Gypsy Rose Memoirs in honour of the American burlesque entertainer, stripper and vedette before the show turns its sultry attention to international and multi-talented star Kitty Bang Bang. Violent Passion erupts in act three before tasting plates are served and a tribute to the one-and-only Dita Von Teese takes centre stage with a dancing in martini glass number.
Act five’s tribute to the famed Parisian cabaret Le Crazy Horse delivers a showstopping number before act six delivers the knock-out blow with Let Me Entertain You, and entertained you will be.
The finale is all Pretty Legs, Great Big Knockers, but the fun at The Underground Burlesque Experience begins before the curtain is even raised when attendees enter The Magician’s Cabaret through a secret entrance. Once everyone is inside with a drink from the underground bar, the wall will part to reveal the famous cabaret room where inhibitions and fun run wild.
Acclaimed cabaret writer and director James Karp and his long-time accomplice James Taylor have created a show that does not falter when exploring the art form, from the seductive striptease to the stinging satire. The Underground Burlesque Experience is packed with equal parts humour and glamour.
Its cast of singers and dancers have benefited from Taylor’s attention to detail and discipline from his years at Royal Ballet of London, and across six acts plus finale tell the stories of some of the world’s most famous burlesque stars with poise and delicacy.
The Underground Burlesque Experience at The Magician’s Cabaret takes place on Fridays from 7pm. While tickets to only the show are available (and the bar will be open between acts for refreshments), premium ticket holders get a Mediterranean tasting plate included in their ticket.
Fridays are meant for a dinner and show spectacular, and The Underground Burlesque Experience delivers the spectacular in six seductive acts to leave audiences wanting more.
