The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade had to be moved to the SCG the last two years thanks to Covid. And although it was still a riot, there’s nothing quite like experiencing the spectacle at it’s original home of Oxford Street. But things are about to course-correct with the parade finally returning in 2023 to the CBD spot.
The return of the Mardi Gras Parade coincides with Sydney World Pride, set to take place from February 17–March 5, 2023. Over the 17-day event, a dizzying number of activities have been lined up. From The Sissy Ball to The Mardi Gras Fair, a massive beach party in Bondi and a Blak & Deadly First Nations gala concert — over 300 events will take over the city.
Other notable highlights include a dance rave at The Domain, the Paradiso Pool Party, Laugh Out Proud, the Rainbow Republic queer show and more.
The news was announced today at the Opera House forecourt where over a thousand Sydneysiders came together to form a human Progress Flag. Over 12,000 marchers come together for the Mardi Gras parade every year and Sydney WorldPride is expected to welcome over a million visitors. 2023 also marks the parade’s 45th year so celebrations are expected to be as dazzling as ever.
Mark your calendar for the 2023 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Tickets for Sydney WorldPride go on sale on July 15. Head to their website for all the details and for the full program line-up.
