Instead of making the long journey to Western Australia, what if we told you that you could take a selfie with the world’s happiest animal, right here at home? Sydney Zoo is now home to not one but three of Australia’s cutest animals, just in time for the school holidays. Known for their camera-ready smiles and naturally upturned mouths, the famous marsupials are native to Rottnest Island in WA, so it’s not often you’ll see them in this side of the country.
Quokkas at Sydney Zoo
Making their debut at Sydney Zoo, this trio — a male and two females — are the first quokkas to join the zoo’s lineup. They’ve been introduced to a purpose-built habitat that mirrors their natural surroundings, with ample space to roam, climb, and forage at their own pace. The zoo is inviting the public to help name the new arrivals through an online naming competition — enter here if you have any fun suggestions!
The quokkas are all settled in and ready for curious visitors. Drop by Sydney Zoo for a chance to see them up close, and be sure to take your cameras along. Find out what else is on at Sydney Zoo here.
