Spring is on the horizon, and a string of colourful markets is set to pop up across Sydney to help you make the most of the warmer weather. Starting in September, five suburbs will host free spring markets packed with hundreds of stalls selling everything from handmade fashion and homewares to jewellery, art and locally made treats. Food will be a major highlight, with plenty of sweet and savoury treats to try alongside live music, family entertainment and plenty of activities for little ones. The market trail will stretch from the harbourfront at Watsons Bay to the Inner West and Western Sydney, before wrapping up with one of the Sutherland Shire’s biggest annual events. From a harbourfront market packed with international food to a huge street festival that takes over an entire shopping strip, there’s a lot to look forward to for market lovers. Expect everything from fashion, jewellery, art, homewares, handmade goods, and much more. All five events are free to enter. Here is the key info and dates you need to mark in your calendar.
Breakfast Point Spring Festival: Sunday, September 6, 9am–3pm at Village Green
Around 80 stalls will kick off the series on Father’s Day, with live music, live performances and family entertainment on the menu. Food options will include dumplings, wagyu skewers, loaded chips and gourmet hot dogs, while kids can catch puppet shows, giant bubbles and a petting farm.
Watsons Bay Spring Market: Sunday, September 13, 9am–3pm at Robertson Park
The ninth edition of the popular beachside market will bring more than 120 stalls to the harbour, with boutique shopping and a diverse food selection. Expect everything from Japanese hashimaki and Malaysian char kway teow to paella, Portuguese tarts, pizza and birria tacos.
Mason and Main Merrylands Indoor Spring Market: Saturday, October 17, 10am–4pm at 40 McFarlane Street
This new indoor spring market will feature around 50 stalls spread across the first floor of the precinct, with fashion, jewellery, art and homewares alongside food, coffee, live music and children’s entertainment. The indoor setting also makes this one a handy option if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Gymea Village Festival: Sunday, October 25, 9am–4pm along Gymea Bay Road
This is the biggest stop on the trail, with more than 250 stalls taking over the street for the day. There’s plenty on offer from shopping and food stalls, to live music, rides, local performances and a dedicated kids’ area with free activities.
Burwood Spring Market: Saturday, October 31, 10am–4pm at Burwood Park
The final market lands on Halloween weekend, with more than 50 stalls spanning fashion, jewellery, homewares and handmade goods. Food will range from Korean-fusion burgers and Greek souvlaki to pasta, brownies and tiramisu, with live performances and family activities also planned.
