Colourful florals are a welcome sign of spring. There’s so much going on in and around Sydney if you want to immerse yourself in spring blooms from giant tulip festivals to an ocean of paper daisies and pretty cherry blossoms lining the streets. But if you’d rather not spend any time on the road, you can find a giant showcase of sweet-smelling blooms right here in the heart of Sydney. The Sydney Flower Market is the place to go this spring with colourful flowers of every kind lining the aisles. The giant markets supply around 75 percent of wholesale flowers sold around Sydney. With the onset of warmer weather, the flowers are in full bloom and the markets are bustling with seasonal activity. Here is everything you need to know about the colourful spot.
Sydney Flower Market
Although the flower markets mainly supply flowers to florists around Sydney, regional NSW, and the ACT, they are also open to the general public. On offer is a wide variety of locally grown flowers from around NSW including everything from daffodils, oriental lilies, tulips, poppies, cherry blossoms, purple iris, lavender, ranunculi, and much more. Spring and summer will also see a variety of delightful seasonal blooms.
Over 170 traders set up shop at the markets and they’re open 6 days of the week early in the morning from 5am to 11am so you never have to run out of fresh-cut flowers. The main flower-growing areas in NSW are the Central Coast, Horsley Park, Leppington, Dural, and Glenorie, and farms in these areas supply fresh-cut flowers to the markets daily.
Try and get there before 9am which is when trading begins and you could beat the crowds and wear comfortable shoes because you’ll need to do a lot of walking. You can also make a beeline for the surrounding fruit and veg markets and take home some fresh seasonal produce.
