NSW’s largest national park has welcomed a new 4-day walk which will take visitors to majestic alpine landscapes, meadows brimming with wildflowers and glorious mountain views. The Snowies Alpine Walk will highlight the unique alpine ecosystems of the area and fabulous views of the Kosciuszko summit precinct and it’s officially open to visitors. The 56km track will stretch all around the Snowy Mountains and the Kosciuszko National Park winding past the banks of the Snowy River, classic snow gum forests, and the highest mountain in all of Australia. It’s going to be a must-visit attraction this summer so here’s everything you need to know.
The Snowies Alpine Walk
The glories of the Mount Kosciuszko area are not confined to just Rawson Pass and the Mount Kosciuszko summit and that’s what this new hiking trail is hoping to showcase to old and new visitors alike.
Connecting existing trails with new tracks, bookmarked by mountains, lakes, lush alpine forests, and seasonal blooms, this walk kicks off in Guthega and extends on to Charlotte Pass, Perisher, and Bullock’s Flat. On the way, the route will take walking enthusiasts along incredible scenery, high-country plains, quaint cottages, majestic mountains, campsites, and more, and a wide variety of native flora and fauna for nature lovers. The 9km Guthega to Charlotte Pass walk and the 13km Charlotte Pass to Perisher walk have been open for hikers since winter, and now the final stretch—the 11km track from Perisher to Bullocks Flat—is also welcoming visitors
If traversing the full self-guided or guided route seems like a daunting task, you can embark on smaller sections of the walk with 2, 3, or 4-day tracks.
The Snowies Alpine Walk is now open just in time for summer. Find out more about the hiking trail here.
