After the Matildas’ best-ever run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the appetite for football is stronger than ever. In an effort to keep the momentum going and further cement her name in the history books, Tillies captain Sam Kerr has announced a series of football schools across Australia aptly named Sam Kerr Football. One of Australia’s most decorated football players has taken the reigns to develop the next generation of football superstars in the country. Kerr’s outstanding individual goal against England has rightfully made her a goal of the tournament contender and if it’s living rent-free in your head, you have a precursor to the kind of training students at the academy can expect.
Sam Kerr Football Academy
The academy will be open for both boys and girls aged 3-14. It will also include opportunities for both businesses to buy a Sam Kerr Football franchise and for coaches to train young players. Aside from developing players’ football skills, students can expect broader health and wellbeing initiatives that are crucial to overall growth and development.
“Growing up, there weren’t opportunities for me to develop my game in a way that allowed me to be my best,” Kerr told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“It wasn’t until I turned pro that I learnt things like how to nourish my body to perform at my best or how to manage my mental well-being. My hope is that delivering a comprehensive program that is more than just skill development will give young players the best chance to live out their potential as a player,” she added.
The program will be developed under Kerr’s guidance and expertise with help from footballing greats in Australia and around the world.
The academy will launch in 2024 with enrollments set to open later in 2023. To get more information and register your interest as a coach, player, commercial partner or owner head to the Sam Kerr Football website.
