Time to crank up the jukebox and dust off the roller skates. In celebration of it’s first birthday, a two-day retro-themed extravaganza is coming to Marrickville Metro. Dubbed the Retro Metro Festival, a bunch of cool activities will be taking over the center. On the cards is face painting, arcade machines, roller skating, pop up food stalls and heaps of old-school nostalgia.
The Retro Metro Festival
Since it first opened it’s doors, Marrickville Metro has brought heaps of cool offers and promotions to the inner west. From $3 beers to $1 ramen, food lovers can find it all at the center without burning a hole in their pocket.
At the Retro Metro Festival, you can expect similar offers to dazzle your taste buds with over 10 exciting dining options on the menu. Find Sydney favourites like Rice Pantry, Nanyang Malaya Café, Izakaya Tori and Slim’s Quality Burger at the bustling venue.
While you indulge on these mouthwatering treats, you’ll also find heaps of groovy (and free) activities taking over the metro. Shop till you drop at the Metro Markets on Smidmore St., featuring over 25 stalls replete with home and interior products, fashion, jewellery, art, gourmet produce and more. To really get the retro theme going, head to the Photo Wall. Here you’ll find vintage jukeboxes and seating, hot pink neon signs and a recycled artwork backdrop by local
re-use centre, Reverse Garbage. A huge highlight of the weekend event is the pop up Arcade Alley where you can play Pac-Man to your heart’s content like it’s the 80s.
And that’s not all. Drag queens, retro roller skaters, disco performers and mirror people will be on the venue bringing all the entertainment and good vibes as you while away your day. Bands and DJs will also be on the venue spinning cool retro music and funky 70s tunes to get you going. There are also some activities to keep the kids busy including bio-glitter tattooing.
The Retro Metro Festival is on this weekend from 10am to 5pm.
