Winter festival season is almost over, but spring is just around the corner, and Sydney’s calendar is already filling up with family-friendly events, outdoor markets and spectacular light displays. Now one of Western Sydney’s biggest annual celebrations has confirmed its return, bringing three evenings of free entertainment to the banks of the Nepean River this September. Real Festival will once again transform Penrith with immersive art, live performances, glittering installations and interactive experiences designed for all ages. Set against a picturesque riverside backdrop, the much-loved community event is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the season. Here’s everything you need to know.
Real Festival returns to Penrith this spring
Running across three evenings, this year’s festival will be built around the theme of Flight, encouraging visitors to explore ideas of movement, imagination and new perspectives through a vibrant program of art and performance. While the full schedule is yet to be announced, visitors can expect a blend of large-scale installations, live entertainment and interactive experiences for all ages.
The Nepean River foreshore will be at the heart of the event, with illuminated artworks and creative spaces dotted throughout Tench Reserve. Families can expect hands-on workshops, roving performances and plenty of activities for children, alongside live music and a lineup of food trucks serving a variety of dishes throughout the evening. With wide open spaces, riverside walking paths and free entry, the festival promises to be one of Western Sydney’s most popular spring events, offering an easy evening out as the weather warms up.
