Qantas has just released the first images of its revolutionary Airbus A350-1000ULR, the aircraft that will soon make non-stop flights from Sydney to London and New York a reality. Currently in assembly in France, the plane is set to redefine long-haul travel as we know it. Slashing up to four hours off the current one-stop flight times, this ultra-long-range jet is set to take off as early as 2027, offering Aussies a faster, direct route to two of the world’s most visited destinations.

The A350-1000ULR is taking shape at Airbus’ factory in Toulouse, France, with its fuselage, wings, and landing gear already in place. Once complete, the aircraft will move to a new hangar for engine and flight instrument installation, with test flights slated for 2026. This is a crucial milestone for Qantas’ “Project Sunrise,” which aims to launch non-stop flights connecting Australia’s east coast with London and New York by 2027.
The A350-1000ULR is set to redefine the long-haul flight experience, with a fuel-efficient design that allows it to cover up to 22 hours of continuous flying. Inside, there will be just 238 seats, offering more space for passengers.

A key feature will be the Wellbeing Zone, designed to help alleviate jetlag and improve comfort during these extended flights. Qantas is also introducing specialized cabin features aimed at enhancing passenger wellness during the journey.
With groundbreaking aircraft design and cutting-edge technology, the project promises to shape the future of air travel, with Qantas asserting that the new routes will set new standards in efficiency, passenger experience, and sustainability. Read more about Project Sunrise here.
