Sydney’s Gadigal Station has secured a place on the global map, after being named among the World’s Most Beautiful Passenger Stations for 2025 by Prix Versailles, a global design award that celebrates architectural innovation and cultural significance. Although relatively new, having opened in August 2024, the station has earned rave reviews for its modern design and thoughtful integration into the city’s transport network. Designed with accessibility in mind, it features locally sourced sandstone and towering columns at the entrance, with vibrant murals bringing a pop of colour to the space. Gadigal Station was one of seven stations worldwide to make the prestigious list. Here’s everything you need to know.
Gadigal Station, Sydney

If you haven’t been, Gadigal Station is a visually pleasing spot, incorporating striking yet minimal aesthetics with highly practical offerings, including platform screen doors for safety and acoustic panels that reduce noise. Its standout features include six towering columns at Park Street, weighing 168 tonnes each, that lead commuters into a space that’s both sleek and welcoming. Inside, the space is lined with sandstone panels sourced from the NSW Central Coast, adding a local touch to the station’s identity. Art installation The Underneath by artist Callum Morton is a highlight as you walk in or leave, spanning both station entrances with over 10,000 colourful tiles and paying tribute to the city’s rail history.
Gadigal Station honours the Gadigal People, the traditional custodians of the land where the station stands. Beyond its design, Gadigal Station plays an instrumental role in Sydney’s urban renewal, improving connectivity in the area and helping to ease congestion.
