After over 50 years, Bayview Park at Concord will reopen to swimmers. Starting next month, swimming will be allowed in this Parramatta River spot for the first time since 1969. Thanks to an initiative by the state government, Bayview Park will now reopen with brand-new facilities for the public.
Bayview Park, Parramatta River
The swimming site in Bayview Park closed in 1969 and the baths were ultimately demolished in 1995. Now after a $700,000 redevelopment, this portion of the river will be swimmable once again. It’ll reopen with a swimming safety net, an outdoor shower and open picnic spaces for a leisurely soak in the sun.
Additionally, thanks to a collaboration with Sydney Water, the City of Canada Bay will assess the site and test the water quality before it opens. Avid swimmers can do the same by clicking here.
Currently, a major project is underway to open new swimming spots on the Parramatta River by 2025. Read all about it here and get excited for summer.
Many exciting changes are coming to Sydney and Parramatta in particular including Central Station’s multi-billion dollar facelift and a 91-km waterfront pathway which will connect Parramatta and the Opera House.
