Western Sydney has a swanky new spot to beat the heat. The long-awaited Parramatta Aquatic Centre is now open after six years and an extensive $88.6 million refurbishment. Gym, spa, steam and sauna facilities are part of the sprawling new fitness and wellness hub which is primed to be a year-round destination for the local community.
Parramatta Aquatic Centre
Located in the heart of Parramatta CBD, the 40,000-square-metre facility comes with a number of exciting features including a cafe, a fitness centre and an indoor water playground. Dive into the 50m, 10-lane Olympic-sized heated outdoor pool or head to the 25m, 8-lane heated indoor recreational pool which is perfect for lap swimming, squads and aqua fitness classes.
There are two other pools at the centre: A dedicated learn-to-swim pool and an indoor water playground ideal for splashing around in. There’s a lot more on the cards including a fitness centre which includes a variety of fitness classes to get you ready for summer, a cafe with indoor and outdoor spaces and creche facilities for parents on the go. Other highlights include two hours of free parking and locker access.
As for the design, visitors can expect the local Parramatta Park setting with plenty of leafy green spaces and surrounding heritage vistas. Sydney is looking at an unseasonably hot spring and summer ahead so this is welcome news for the city’s second CBD.
The previous swimming centre was demolished in 2017 and Parramatta locals have waited a long six years for a recreational space such as this. If the sweltering temps have you down, you don’t have to wait too long to cool down in style. The Aquatic Centre is officially open to the public from September 25. Get more information here.
