There’s a lot to love about Cockatoo Island. It’s many heritage buildings, waterfront cafes, lovely picnic spots and proximity to Sydney make it a popular getaway for locals. Now adding to that list is Opera Australia’s ambitious production of Bizet’s much-loved Carmen with Opera on Cockatoo Island. Visitors get the unique chance to enjoy world-celebrated opera under the stars, surrounded by picturesque harbour views. It’s all happening this November and December at Eastern Apron and Bolt Wharf.
Opera on Cockatoo Island
Carmen is a renowned opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. Opera Australia promises an edge-of-the-seat experience through this thrilling production. Expect motorbike stunts, nightly fireworks, brilliant set design, costumes and heaps more. The UNESCO World Heritage Site will be transformed into a sensational opera venue with an unforgettable evening planned for guests. Also on the venue will be a number of pop-up bars and restaurants and a live orchestra. It’s primed to be a pretty special evening for Sydneysiders and a fitting goodbye to the year.
Celebrated director Liesel Badorrek will be at the helm with designer Mark Thompson taking care of set and costume. Tickets will set you back by $79 and you can grab some here before they sell out.
