Sydney could soon be home to a major new attraction unlike anything else in Australia, as the NRL looks for new ways to capitalise on the sport’s record-breaking popularity. Plans are reportedly moving forward for a dedicated rugby league entertainment venue, likened to a Disneyland for footy fans (as you do). Tentatively dubbed NRL World, the proposed attraction would combine interactive technology with a range of rugby league-themed experiences under one roof, with a focus on catering to younger fans. A site in Sydney’s inner suburbs is reportedly being lined up for the project, and ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys has indicated the ambitious concept could become a major attraction for the sport over the coming years. Here’s what we know so far.
Welcome to the happiest place on turf: NRL World could soon open in Sydney

According to The Australian, a deal is reportedly in place for the venue to open in Alexandria, bringing the concept to one of Sydney’s buzziest suburbs. And while the Disneyland comparison might conjure up images of rollercoasters shaped like footballs and players wandering around in mascot costumes, the reality could be quite a bit different.
The venue is expected to lean heavily into interactive experiences, including augmented reality and AI-powered simulated players that fans can speak to and ask questions. Visitors could also get the chance to virtually play for a team, alongside rugby league gaming and other hands-on activities for fans.
And there’s more. Plans reportedly include coaching clinics, merchandise, watch parties and spaces that could be used for birthdays and other functions. Rather than a conventional theme park packed with rides, the idea appears to be more of an all-in-one NRL entertainment hub — somewhere fans can play, watch and interact with rugby league away from game day.
The project is reportedly already taking shape, with concepts drawn up and club bosses briefed on the plans. While there’s no opening date on the calendar just yet, V’landys has indicated the attraction forms part of the NRL’s plans for the next five years. We’ll keep you updated as plans progress.
