NSW drivers have a little less to pay at the rego counter from today, with a $100 discount kicking in for millions of vehicles across the state.
The discount applies to more than 4.4 million vehicles across the state, with around 360,000 privately owned light vehicles due for renewal in September alone. Motorcyclists will also receive a saving, with $80 taken off their registration.
There’s no form to fill out or application to make. Eligible drivers will automatically receive the discount when they renew their registration, register a new vehicle in NSW, or re-register a vehicle that was previously unregistered.
For drivers renewing their rego this month, the saving will simply come off the amount they would normally pay. There’s also no need to contact Service NSW or submit additional paperwork to access the discount, making it one less step to worry about when registration time rolls around.
Drivers whose registration was due in July or August will receive the $100 discount when they next renew in 2027.
More Transport Savings For NSW
The NSW Government says the registration cut is part of a greater push to reduce transport costs for households. The measures also include a $50 weekly toll cap for 12 months, the removal of toll administration fees and a freeze on Opal fares at 2025 prices for the next year.
Minister for Roads and Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison said the automatic discount would make it easier for drivers to save. “Our registration discount is automatically applied, meaning there’s no homework, just savings, so families can spend money on their loved ones instead.”
Drivers can now check their registration details and opt for digital registration reminders through their MyServiceNSW account or the Service NSW app. The digital option can make it easier to keep track of renewal dates and avoid missing an upcoming registration deadline.
