NSW has plenty of culture and history including an eclectic mix of institutions scattered around the state. If you want to spend a peaceful afternoon there is plenty to choose from including a sprawling Japanese garden with manicured lawns and lakes and a tranquil subterranean park that will transport you to ancient Rome. An under-the-radar spot to add to your list can be found a short 90-minute drive from Sydney and it’s a remarkable piece of architecture. But there’s more to it than meets the eye. The Nan Tien Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere and offers plenty of holistic activities from weekend retreats to exhibitions. Buddhists celebrate the Buddha’s birthday every year on different dates with May 15 being the date for 2024, a great opportunity to learn more about one of the world’s largest religions if you’re so inclined.
