Merewether Ocean Baths, Newcastle
The first ocean baths at Merewether were built in 1926 and were known as the Ladies Pool. Because these pool were accumulating sewerage, the local council decided to build a newer and bigger pool further down the beach. These pools were completed and opened in 1935 and are the same Merewether Ocean Baths that are in use today. Measuring 100m long and 50m wide, the baths easily dwarf every other ocean pool in the state. There are two pools here, a shallower pool perfect for kids and a larger pool on the eastern side. The pool is divided into a ten lap lanes so you can swim the whole length of the baths. The ocean pool also stand out because of its Art Deco design and organic natural elements.
Opportunities for recreation abound around the beach where guests can enjoy a picnic, swim or surf or go on a coastal walk. You can also enjoy water activities like paddleboarding and snorkelling.

The ocean pools are equipped with ramps and concrete paths making them easily accessible and there is also no need to book in advance. The sprawling pools are big enough to accomodate a significant crowd but with ample space for everyone.
