It’s a great time for musicals and live theatre in Sydney. With Hamilton completely dominating the scene and The Phantom of the Opera set to make waves later this year, stage musicals are alive and well Down Under.
In exciting news, everyone’s favourite nanny is making her way to the Sydney Lyric Theatre next year. The musical will be co-created and produced by Cameron Mackintosh, who is also bringing the dazzling new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of The Opera to Sydney.
“I am thrilled to be bringing my latest current hit London production of Mary back home to Sydney next year, following my upcoming production of Phantom of the Opera, and finding another stellar cast to spellbind a new generation of theatregoers,” Mackintosh said in a press release.
The much-loved tale tells the story of a magical nanny who is employed to take care of two mischievous children. What follows is a tale of magic and adventure that has warmed the hearts of many over the years.
At the moment, an extensive and nation-wide search for the beloved nanny is underway. Shows to other cities have not yet been announced and Sydney is set to be the site for the massive Australian premiere. While specific details are yet to be announced, Sydneysiders can look forward to unforgettable stage production, some breath-taking music and remarkable dance numbers.
Mary Poppins will play in Sydney from May-October 2022. Tickets are yet to be released but you can sign up for the waitlist here.
