Mardi Gras 2026 is upon us, and Sydney is all ready to show its pride. With the recent end of the final lockout laws, this year’s event is destined to become a bigger party than ever, whilst remaining mindful that the fight for LGBTQIA+ representation and rights continues to be as necessary and urgent today as it was 48 years ago, on the day of the city’s first Mardi Gras.
Since 1978, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade has marched through the city in a show of love, defiance, pride, and activism, and on Saturday, February 28, it’ll take place once more. To celebrate this year’s Mardi Gras – which takes the theme of Ecstatica – we’ve rounded up a few of the events we’re most excited for! How will you be celebrating?
