Aussies have long been deprived of what could potentially be the greatest Macca’s dipping sauce of them all. The infamous Szechuan sauce first debuted in 1998 as part of a McDonald’s promotion for Disney’s original animated film Mulan. It gained newfound interest after featuring in an episode of Rick and Morty nearly 20 years later.
Macca’s is now putting an end to our misery by finally bringing the Szechuan sauce to our shores along with three other flavours.
The four sauces drop this July with the Cajun and Szechuan Sauces set to be the first limited edition releases. A tried and tested favourite, the Cajun sauce is a blend of Dijon mustard, vinegar, honey and spices for the perfect sweet but tangy flavour. While the all too famous Szechuan sauce is a delicious concoction of soy sauce, ginger, garlic and sesame oil.
The other two flavours won’t be revealed until later next month but Macca’s is also running a Sauce Quest which is a three-day digital sauce hunt. From Tuesday, June 28, sauce enthusiasts can put on their detective hats and solve clues to find hidden sauce splatters. If you manage to find all the splatters, you go into the draw with a chance to win your own personal stash of the Cajun and Szechuan sauces. To take part, keep your eyes peeled on their socials.
