A new community market is bringing Liverpool’s cultures, food and homegrown talent together in Austral this September, reviving the spirit of a much-loved local Italian festival while looking firmly towards the future.
On Sunday, 13th September, Scalabrini Austral will open its doors for the inaugural Live Easy Community Market Day, transforming its grounds on Edmondson Avenue into a free, family-friendly celebration of the people and cultures that make South West Sydney so distinctive.
Running from 10am to 3pm, the event will bring together food vendors, market stalls, cultural performances, children’s activities and a community talent show—with lots of space for families to settle in and stay awhile.
A new celebration with old roots

Live Easy Community Market Day is set to revive a beloved Austral tradition for a new generation. Organisers say it pays tribute to the Italian Festival that was once held in Austral, while reflecting the remarkable cultural diversity of the area today.
Liverpool is home to residents from more than 140 countries, with more than half of its population speaking a language other than English. That history of migration and multiculturalism will sit at the heart of the day, as generations of local stories meet the communities shaping Liverpool now.
Liverpool City Council is sponsoring the event in support of intercultural understanding and community engagement.
The food line-up offers a delicious snapshot of Liverpool’s cultural diversity. The line-up includes traditional Italian pasta, fish and chips, Turkish gözleme, gelato, gingerbread treats and coffee, whihc provides an edible snapshot of the cultures represented across the community.
Market stalls will add another layer, with Filipino handcrafts and jewellery alongside plants, handmade gifts, artisan soaps, fair trade products and pre-loved treasures. Scalabrini Austral’s own religious sisters and residents will also run stalls, giving the market a distinctly local feel.
Bring the kids—and the picnic blanket

The afternoon will build towards the Community Talent Show, bringing performers of different ages and backgrounds onto the stage.
The program will feature martial arts, poetry, dance from a women’s health organisation, performances from a local Indian dance school and Filipino cultural dance from PASACI and SAFSI.
Families can make a full day of it, with free activities for younger visitors including face painting, balloon twisting and henna art, alongside a Kindy Farm petting zoo experience. There will also be a jumping castle, while the open green grounds provide plenty of room for families to spread out with a picnic blanket.
Dogs are welcome too, provided they remain on a short, non-expandable lead and under their owner’s control. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets, while certified assistance dogs are also welcome.
With free entry, the event is designed to be as much about lazing and connecting as it is about the spirit of community.
