Feeling tired, stressed, and like you want to get away from it all? We have the perfect remedy for you. The famed Light to Light Walk in Beowa National Park near the postcard-perfect town of Eden has reopened just in time for dreamy winter walks along the sun-drenched coast. Stretching 32km along the dazzling Sapphire Coast, this spectacular trail is packed with visual wonderment, featuring a juxtaposition of dramatic red cliffs, hidden coves, sparkling azure waters, eucalypt forests, windswept heathland, and an ever-popular lighthouse waiting at the end. It’s also an exceptional trail for whale watching, which means the cooler months are the perfect time to visit. There’s little question the hike is well worth the drive out, but with new and improved features, the coastal gem is more inviting than ever. Here’s what you need to know about the revamped Light to Light walk.
Light to Light walk, Beowa National Park
Starting at the historic Boyds Tower and finishing at the iconic Green Cape Lighthouse, visitors on this rugged, beautiful track will find unparalleled views of the South Coast and an invigorating adrenaline rush that can only be experienced out in the wild. Even better, you don’t need to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy the track. With new campgrounds along the way, you can easily break up the trail and enjoy a more leisurely experience.
The upgraded trail now includes two purpose-built hike-in campgrounds, handily perched by the ocean at Mowarry Point and Hegartys Bay. Each site comes with 10 raised hardwood sleeping platforms and toilet facilities, designed to blend comfort with the wild, coastal setting. Part of the major $14.9 million upgrades is also a brand new section between Bittangabee Bay and Green Cape, leading walkers across striking rock platforms. Parts of the original trail have been realigned to hug the coastline more closely, which means endless views of glittering teal waters are always in abundant supply.
The full multi-day hike is an adventure for the books, but shorter sections can be just as rewarding. In fact, NPWS recommends easing in with a gentle 9km walk, starting at Boyds Tower and finishing at Mowarry Point, before taking on the entire trail.
