The Ramadan Night Markets Have Been Cancelled For The Second Year In A Row

The beloved night markets will not be going ahead in 2021.

The popular Ramadan Night Markets in Lakemba which normally run between April and May will not be going ahead this year. The food festival that takes place every night for the month of Ramadan is renowned for its diverse cuisine and overall vibe. However, for the second year in a row, the night markets have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. In previous years the festival has famously attracted thousands of people from around the country, with weeknights recording as many as 30,000 attendees.

The Canterbury Bankstown Council’s website released a statement saying, “Due to current NSW public health orders and restrictions the decision has been made by Council that the formal Ramadan Nights event will not be held in 2021.”

“This does not mean that we will not continue to celebrate and recognise this important time. We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to celebrating with you in 2022,” the statement further added.

This is disappointing news for many around the city but we look forward to 2022 where we can hopefully get together and enjoy the same exuberant energy, delectable food and unforgettable experience that the event has offered in previous years.

Till then, here’s a look at all the amazing theatre events happening in the month of April.
