Sydney’s about to turn into its own City of Stars this May as the Oscar-winning musical La La Land takes over the Darling Harbour Theatre—this time in a breathtaking live-to-film concert experience.
To celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary, Lionsgate is bringing Damien Chazelle’s dazzling ode to Los Angeles—and to classic Hollywood musicals—back to life with a full symphony orchestra performing Justin Hurwitz’s original score in perfect sync with the film’s most iconic moments.
Where Film Meets Live Symphony

For one weekend only (Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31), audiences can relive Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s bittersweet romance, jazz-soaked dreams and neon-hued dance numbers—only this time, the music that made the film soar will be performed by a live orchestra right in front of you.
Hurwitz himself, the composer who earned two Oscars, two Grammys and four Golden Globes for his unforgettable music—including the swoon-inducing “City of Stars”—will take the conductor’s podium for the Sydney shows. It’s a rare chance to see the creative mind behind La La Land’s soundscapes guide every horn swell and piano flourish in real time.
Meanwhile, George Ellis—known for his work with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and major film-score performances—will lead the Melbourne (6th & 8th June) and Brisbane (3rd June) concerts.
If you ever wanted to feel what it’s like strolling through Griffith Observatory under a technicolour night sky or waltzing on a freeway that somehow turns into a stage, this might be the next best thing.
The production blends big-screen escapism and live symphonic power to recreate one of cinema’s most modern love stories—all about jazz, heartbreak and a little bit of hope.
