Sydney’s nightlife may be recovering slowly but it still leaves much to be desired if you want to have some fun after hours. Luckily, instead of being trapped at home when the clock strikes midnight, there are some excellent late-night adventures to be had not too far from the city. One we would recommend is the Katoomba Falls Night-Lit Walk, a short 1.5km trail you can traverse when the sun goes down. The illuminated night walk gives visitors a unique opportunity to see some of the Blue Mountains’ most fascinating landmarks and natural wonders up close late at night. Here’s everything you need to know before you embark on this nocturnal adventure.
Katoomba Falls Night-Lit Walk
Hiking may not be the first thing you think of when looking for activities after dark, but this isn’t your average hike. The entire track is lit up by twinkling lights and starry skies and it’s the perfect after hours adventure or a romantic late night date idea. Flood lights shine on the highlights of the walk such as the waterfalls and rock formations and small lights have been used along the paths so you can comfortably enjoy the trail.
On the way you’ll spot the famous rock formation Orphan Rock, iconic Blue Mountains lookouts like Katoomba Falls Lookout and Solitary Lookout and equally popular waterfalls like Katoomba Falls and Witches Leap which is best experienced after a day of rain. At some vantage points you could also spot the Three Sisters. The walk also leads through lush forest area, clifftops and towering trees.
When do the lights turn on and off?
The lights turn on around dusk. Floodlights will be switched off at 10.30pm and the pathlights will go off at 11pm.
How difficult is the walk?
This is a fairly easy walk with some stairs making it suitable for any fitness level. Remember to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes and carry water and flashlights along in case you need extra light. Part of the walk, a 280m pathway which leads to Cliff Top Lookout is also wheelchair friendly and offers lovely views of surrounding areas.

Yes, two designated parking spots are available at the site, one close to the Katoomba Falls kiosk and the other right opposite it. Conveinently, you can drive right to the start of the walk and park your vehicle there.
