Prepare to witness the epic struggle between good and evil when Jekyll and Hyde the musical comes to town. The Australian premiere of the production takes place next week in Sydney with renowned actor Hayden Tee at the helm. Brought to life by an excellent cast of 14 performers, the musical opens at Hayes Theatre Co this week.
Jekyll and Hyde the musical
The musical stars Australian singer-songwriter Brendan Maclean in the title role of Dr Jekyll and his alter-ego, Mr Hyde. Stage performer Brady Peeti will tackle the role of Lucy Harris with Georgina Hopson taking on the role of Emma Carew.
Set in 1947 London, the musical is based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson and features a host of pop rock hits. Classics like “This is the Moment”, “In His Eyes”, “Someone Like You” and “A New Life” will feature in the production.
Director Hayden Tee spoke about the relevance of the musical in a post-pandemic world.
“The last time the entire human race collectively experienced a tragedy on the same scale as Covid-19 was World War Two. I am fascinated to see what the human race learns from past trauma when dealing with the post pandemic mental health crisis. Therefore, by setting Jekyll & Hyde entirely in a military mental hospital the year after the allies won the war but the year before the formation of the NHS, we can examine our future through the lens of the past.”
