His photography portrays a global view of our present and is rooted in portraying the essence of humanity. Through his images we see life from every corner of the globe, and are introduced to people and experiences that are very far from the ones we are familiar with.
Tickets for ICONS start at only $29, book yours now.
Starting out as a war photographer, McCurry never captured epic battles between armies, instead his photographs captured the effects war had on everyday people and the landscapes around them. One of his best known images “Afghan Girl” is an example of this. A young girl staying in a refugee camp, staring into the camera with a world of sadness behind her eyes. 20 years on and it is still one of the most recognizable images in the world.
This exhibition is a tribute to McCurry’s entire career and showcases a collection of over 100 images displayed as part of his collection of work. Take your time to walk through the exhibition, while listening to audio descriptions from 42 selected exhibitors to hear the story behind the photos, in Steve McCurry’s own words. You will also be able to watch Steve McCurry testify about his life and experiences as a photographer in a documentary that will be screened at the venue.
