McCurry’s work has been celebrated around the world, and his iconic photograph “Afghan Girl” has become one of the most recognisable images in history. But this exhibition is so much more than just photographs, it is rooted around capturing the human experience in all its complexity.
From conflicts to vanishing cultures, ancient traditions to contemporary society, the photographs exhibited are a powerful reflection of the world around us. Through his lens, we are given a glimpse into the lives of individuals whose stories might otherwise go untold.
McCurry’s images are powerful testimonies that capture the essence of the people and places he has encountered. Through his images, visitors will learn about the ability photography has to tell stories, evoke emotions, and shed light on social and cultural issues.
Visitors will also have the chance to learn more about many of the images through audio descriptions from 42 selected exhibitors. And in a documentary playing at the exhibition, McCurry himself shares his experiences and insights as a photographer.
After walking through the exhibition, guests can then enjoy a cup of coffee and a variety of snacks from the new cafe that has opened at the venue. Guests will be able to take a seat on one of the comfy couches in the cafe and reflect on the incredible images they have just seen.
