Summer is here and to help you savour the season as long as you can, we’ve rounded up several sun-soaked spots to visit: from waterfalls with swimming holes to trending small towns near Sydney and hidden gems worth driving out for. One to add to your itinerary is a new coastal walk right here in the city’s south that has opened just in time for summer adventures. Tucked along the edge of Cronulla’s sparkling coastline, the Hungry Point Clifftop Walk extends an already popular seaside route, offering uninterrupted ocean and harbour views. Here’s everything you need to know about the new trail.
Hungry Point Clifftop Walk

The newly opened walk extends the popular 4.5-kilometre Cronulla Coastal Walk, linking directly with the Esplanade and running from Salmon Haul Bay down to the tip of Hungry Point Reserve. The $6.9 million upgrade bridges the final gap in the peninsula, replacing inland sections with a suspended boardwalk that hugs the coastline. Walkers will be treated to wide open views across the water to Bundeena all the way to the Royal National Park, with plenty of new spots to sit and soak it all in.
Winding past coastal bushland and rugged cliffs with lovely ocean views at every turn, the walk offers several lookout points, seating areas and an accessible viewing platform set above the water. Plus, look out for signs detailing the area’s deep Dharawal history and its heritage status.
