Sydney’s weekend markets are a great excuse to get out and explore, with everything from delicious street food to vintage treasures and live entertainment on offer. But if you’re looking for something a little bigger than your usual neighbourhood jaunt, a popular street festival is returning to Sydney’s south this weekend. The Gymea Village Festival is set to take over the suburb for one day only, bringing together hundreds of market stalls, delicious food, live music and plenty of family-friendly activities. With more than 50,000 visitors expected, it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest community celebrations in the Sutherland Shire this spring. Here’s what to expect from this year’s event.
Gymea Village Festival returns this weekend

More than 250 stalls will line Gymea Bay Road, with everything from handmade jewellery and ceramics to clothing, homewares and delicious treats. Over 50 local businesses will be joining the festivities, including Gymea’s Lawrie Crafted and Alexander Dawson Ceramics. Also look out for handmade wooden toys from the Shire Woodworking Club and Portuguese custard tarts from Cronulla’s House of Natas.
Meanwhile, food lovers can tuck into an exciting mix of international flavours, including handmade dumplings, Malaysian satay cooked over charcoal and colourful tanghulu, a popular Chinese candied fruit snack. Families will also have plenty to do, with a dedicated Kids Zone offering free activities including a petting farm, giant bubbles, puppet shows and arts and crafts. Carnival rides, stilt walkers and interactive construction toys are also on the menu.
Over on the main stage, local musicians and performers will keep the crowds entertained throughout the day. Nearby, Gymea Hotel will join the celebrations with go-karts, reptile shows and live music, including a performance by the Chris Cooke Duo.
