Fairfield Showground is getting a $50 million glow-up, with plans confirmed for a gigantic new events and community hub.
The NSW Government and Fairfield City Council back the development, and it will transform the long-standing showground into a year-round destination for sport, live performances and large-scale events, with capacity for up to 3,000 people.
Inside The Venue

At the heart of the project is a multi-purpose indoor venue designed to flex with the community’s needs. On any given day, it could host local basketball or futsal across two full-sized courts, before quickly converting into a seated arena, trade show floor or banquet hall.
Retractable seating and adaptable layouts will allow the space to shift between formats, from community sport and exhibitions to concerts and cultural events, supported by both indoor and outdoor staging areas.
Moreover, the new centre will plug into the broader Fairfield Showground precinct—which already includes sports fields, community spaces, walking and cycling paths and the popular all-abilities playground at nearby Deerbush Park—creating a more connected and activated hub for locals.
Inside, the facility has been designed with scale in mind. Plans include a main foyer and event space, multiple change rooms for athletes and performers, a kiosk and bar, administrative areas and dedicated spaces for first aid and officials.
There’ll also be back-of-house infrastructure like a loading dock for major productions, alongside upgraded utilities and integrated security systems.
The design team has also factored sustainability into the build and will incorporate solar power and water reuse systems into the design.
Why It Matters In The West?

The NSW Government has committed $28 million to the project, with Fairfield City Council contributing more than $22 million. The project team will begin construction in January 2027 and complete it by August 2028, creating up to 241 construction jobs along the way.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said the project would help unlock the full potential of the showground and address a long-standing gap in access to high-quality community infrastructure in the region.
“This investment is about unlocking the full potential of Fairfield Showground and transforming it into a vibrant destination for Western Sydney,” she said. “For too long, communities in Western Sydney have not had the same level of access to high-quality facilities as the rest of the city.”
Planning Minister Paul Scully said the approval marks a key step forward in delivering a space designed for both everyday use and major events. “We want people to love living locally, and this new Community and Events Centre gives Western Sydney locals a place to attend events, play sport, and watch live performances on their doorstep,” he said.
As Western Sydney continues to grow, the Fairfield Showground redevelopment reflects a broader push to deliver large-scale, flexible venues closer to where people live across the west of the city.
