Engadine is gearing up for one of its biggest community events of the year, with its town centre set to look particularly vibrant this weekend. For one day only, streets usually filled with cars will be taken over by markets, food, entertainment and plenty of activity as the Engadine Street Festival returns on Sunday, August 30. The annual event will run throughout the day across Old Princes Highway and Station Street, bringing together local businesses, makers and performers in the heart of the Sutherland Shire suburb. Best of all, entry and entertainment are completely free, offering an easy weekend outing as Sydney heads towards spring. Here’s what you need to know before heading along.
Engadine Street Festival takes over the Shire this weekend
More than 200 stalls will fill the festival precinct, with a diverse mix of independent makers and retailers selling jewellery, candles, leather goods, homewares, clothing, gifts and gourmet produce. Food is a major highlight of the line-up too, with everything on the menu from wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, Greek souvlaki, Colombian arepas, dumplings, paella and Portuguese tarts, alongside plenty of sweet treats.
Matcha fans can stop by Cha Cha Cha Matcha and Chayuu Matcha, while Crumbl Cookies will also be among the vendors. Several local distillers are joining the festival, including Banks & Solander, Finders Distillery, Karu Distillery and Port Jackson Distilling Co.
There’s plenty planned beyond shopping. Live music and roving performers will appear throughout the day, along with performances from local schools and dance and martial arts groups. Families can also expect amusement rides and face painting to keep the young ones entertained, while The Reptile Man will host a hands-on encounter with native reptiles.
