Home to delicious Asian food and vibrant shops, Eastwood feels like an unlikely spot for a hidden gem but should you venture to the local shopping centre here, that is exactly what you’ll find. The local Woolies store in the suburb has gone viral on Reddit and TikTok because it looks like it’s stuck in the 90s. While Woolworths revamped its logo, branding, and design in 2002, this store still displays the original red logo with the classic green stripes on either side of the letters, and the same old-school flooring and design — a true time warp to the 90s.
Retro Woolies store, Eastwood Centre
Aside from the nostalgic store, the whole centre has a distinctly retro vibe, despite multiple failed efforts by developers to modernise it. Not long ago, there were even arcade machines by the escalators. Inside, you’ll spot checkered floors, old fridges and freezers, signage that references cheques, and none of the digital screens or modern tech you’d find in the newer Woolies stores around the country. And just in case you’re wondering, while the store may be a blast from the past, the prices are definitely 2025.
One user on Reddit described the store as “visiting a historic landmark,” marveling at the fact that it had “no self-checkout”. Others echoed similar sentiments, calling it “the only store with zero self-serve machines” and joking that “head office has somehow forgotten about this place for over a decade.”
One commenter reminisced, saying it “hasn’t changed in 50 years” — the same as it was when they were a kid.
