Winter in Sydney can be simply magical. There’s a bit of everything — cosy markets, incredible light festivals, and festive cheer around every corner. And now, it’s about to get even better: Christmas in July is returning to The Rocks with a dazzling celebration on the cards. Expect snow flurries, mulled wine, raclette, jazz, cocktails, and kilometres of twinkling fairy lights. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming holiday event.
Christmas in July at The Rocks
An Aussie Christmas means backyard barbies and sandy beach visits, but come July, we get a do-over. Get in the holiday spirit and explore the glittering winter village at The Rocks, complete with authentic wooden chalets, kilometres of fairy lights, and a forest of 40 real and snow-dusted pine trees. The walkway features plenty of Instagrammable elements, including nutcrackers, light installations, and artificial snow flurries.
What to expect
More than 20 food pop-ups and boutique stalls will line the streets, serving up nostalgic Christmas treats and quality artisan goods. On the menu: gooey raclette, rich Swiss-style fondue, pillowy gnocchi in creamy mushroom sauce, hearty German bratwursts, golden Austrian schnitzels, and even buttery lobster rolls for a luxe twist. Got a sweet tooth? Indulge in sugar-dusted waffles, warm cinnamon scrolls, flaky French pastries, and Nutella-loaded crêpes that are impossible to resist.
Bring a bag along — there’ll be an artisan market packed with snow globes, handmade ceramics, gourmet goodies, cosy winter gear, perfumes and more. The festival will also tie in with The Rocks’ popular Jazz Sessions, which return on Thursday nights — this time with festive tunes and even more fairy lights.
Carve out some time too for an evening stroll to soak up the lights and all the dazzling decorations.
