Sydney’s market calendar is rarely quiet, but every so often an event comes along that’s big enough to warrant a few hours of the weekend. The Big Design Market is returning to Carriageworks this weekend, bringing hundreds of independent designers and food producers together for three days in Eveleigh. Shopping is the main highlight with everything from ceramics, jewellery and fashion on offer along with street food, wine and sweet treats all under one roof. This year’s edition will also welcome a fresh crop of exhibitors alongside returning favourites, plus limited-edition showbags, an art installation and a few extras across the weekend. Here’s what to expect at The Big Design Market in Sydney.
The Big Design Market returns to Sydney this weekend

More than 230 designers will be setting up shop at Carriageworks this year, spanning homewares, clothing, jewellery, art, stationery, self-care products and more. Among the newcomers are Georgia Rose Studio with wheel-thrown stoneware, Sydney-based Fuego & Piedra with handcrafted furniture, Palmah with unisex hemp and organic cotton streetwear, and Loop Lab with tufted wall art.
The food offering is substantial too, with around 60 producers joining the lineup. Sydney favourites include Lucio Pizzeria, Brooklyn Boy Bagels, Bar Pho and Wholegreen Bakery, while several Melbourne names are making the trip north, including Wonder Pies, Cannoleria and Billy Van Creamy. For something sweet, there’ll also be Shortstop doughnuts, THICC Cookies and chocolate-covered strawberries from Choccy Strawbs.
Drinks range from boutique wines and spirits to non-alcoholic options, while a separate selection of producers will be selling cheeses, condiments, teas, coffee, honey and other pantry goods to take home. There’s more on the cards aside from shopping, this year’s guest artist Em Hatton will create a large-scale installation exclusively for the event, with her work also featured in a dedicated kids’ area with colouring activities. The market’s limited-edition $25 showbags will also return, packed with more than $150 worth of products spanning homewares, stationery, food and other designer goods. A different selection will be available each day, with quantities limited and usually selling out early.

Getting there
Carriageworks is a short walk from Redfern Station, with trains running regularly from the Sydney CBD and across the wider network. Several bus routes also run through the surrounding Redfern and Newtown areas. If you’re driving, street parking is available around Eveleigh, although spaces can be limited during busy periods, so public transport is likely the easier option. Plan your trip on Transport for NSW.
