As the last of the Christmas chocolates disappear and the list of New Year’s resolutions begins to grow, we’re turning our attention to giving 2024 a grand send-off and welcoming in 2025. Turns out, we’re pretty good at that too, as Sydney has been confirmed as the world’s most popular New Year’s Eve destination in a new study by Travelbag, who specialise in long-haul travel. By analysing Google search volumes, they’ve established that Sydney’s world-famous celebrations are the envy of travellers worldwide, with 2025 set to be the latest grand party that confirms us as the best place to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
The survey conducted an analysis of more than 100 cities worldwide, to see which ones provide the most sought-after end of year celebrations. More than 22,000 monthly Google searches look for Sydney’s New Year’s Eve events, with the spectacular fireworks display described as a “bucket-list event” for visitors. It’s the largest and most technologically advanced fireworks show in the world, as Sydney regularly sets a high benchmark for the rest of the world to follow – aided by the fact that the display is free to the public.
Our city’s list of recent accolades just continues to grow, as Sydney is also home to some of the world’s best natural swimming pools, was voted the best city in the world for 2024, and entered the top 10 most liveable cities in the world for 2025. It’s only fitting to celebrate those successes with a world-beating party, so it helps that our New Year’s Eve extravaganzas are the ideal place to do just that!
