In top ways to annoy people from Melbourne: The wise folk from Food & Wine have ranked the best cities in the world for coffee, placing Sydney among the top 5. It’s no secret that Sydneysiders love their coffee and aren’t exactly low-key about their top-notch brews and eclectic coffee culture. It’s a city of coffee purists so it’s no surprise that it’s ranked number 3 among the best coffee destinations around the world. Copenhagen topped the list with Tokyo voted number 2. Experts hailed the Danish capital for “its quality-over-quantity approach, with coffee shops serving meticulously sourced beans and brewing award-winning cups.”
San Francisco and Milan rounded out the top 5. Melbourne placed number 10 on the list so that should hopefully settle the debate.
Best cities in the world for coffee
To curate the list, the leading dining publication asked over 180 food and travel journalists to vote on their favourites. Sydney was hailed for its laidback vibe and cafe culture to match, calling coffee a “serious business” in the city.
There are excellent coffee shops in every corner of Sydney, consistently serving good and inventive coffee from some of the best baristas and roasters in the world. In sixth place was Lisbon followed by Amsterdam, London, Cape Town and Melbourne.
