This Paddington Bar Serves Up Some Of Sydney’s Best Margaritas • Tequila Mockingbird

Like all good origin stories, the story behind the invention of the margarita is actually a collection of colourful tales spanning a couple of countries, a number of years and a few characters.

Whether you believe it was Carlos Herrera, owner of a restaurant somewhere between Tijuana and Baja California , who made the drink in 1938 for a customer allergic to all spirits except tequila; or, Don Carlos bartending in Ensenada, Mexico, in 1941 who concocted the cocktail for Margarita Henkel; or, you believe that the margarita is just the daisy cocktail with tequila instead of brandy and translated into Spanish … does it even make a difference today?

Nope. Not at all.

Regardless of its origins, the margarita (and the frozen margarita for that matter) has become one of the world’s most famous drinks. So famous it is celebrated every year on February 22 as the drink of friendship, good times and the memory of a place somewhere warmer than where we are.

Okay, maybe celebrated is a bit much and World (insert food or drink here) Day‘s are a bit naff, but there’s something about tequila, and thus margaritas, that parties kick right into gear about the time it makes an appearance.

But tequila is so much more than all hands in the air, on the dancefloor screaming wooooo. And margaritas too, for that matter. Treated right, the margarita is a great cocktail.

So, elevating the world-famous margarita in Sydney this World Margarita Day is Tequila Patrón at Tequila Mockingbird.
